Westport is a great location to try out sailing for the first time: within the sheltered waters of Clew Bay, and with short passage out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Sailing is a brilliant way to investigate small coves and inlets in Clew Bay that you can’t reach from land, and, of course, some of the 365 islands doted around the bay giving the sailor plenty of opportunity to explore.

Learning to sail
Clew Bay is an ideal location in which to learn to sail. Our key partner for sailing activities is The Adventure Islands based here in Westport.  All our hotel guests are entitled to receive a 10% discount on any adventure activities booked through The Adventure Islands.

The Adventure Islands offers two types of sailing course – keelboat sailing and dinghy sailing:

Keelboats give a more stable platform to learn to sail, but they are still ideal for racing. You can expect to remain somewhat dry as well! The boats take four people and start from Rosmoney Pier in Clew Bay, providing a safe and sheltered learning environment for beginners, and the great expanses of Clew Bay give more opportunities to explore for more advanced sailors. Dinghy sailing gives you the opportunity to relax and enjoy parts of Clew Bay that are not easily accessible from land. The Adventure Islands offers dinghy sailing lessons at Rosmoney Pier and Collanmore Island.
