Foxford Woolen Mills

Situated approximately 40 kms / 35 mins drive NE of Westport, Foxford is one of the last working mills in Ireland, & was founded by an order of nuns in 1892, overcoming many challenges over the years, in order to survive.
Today, it is a thriving mill with master craftspeople creating beautiful pieces for sale in Foxford’s four stores around Ireland, and in stores all over the world. Foxford works with master craftsman to produce some of the world’s finest weaves, using traditions passed down through generations.

The award winning Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre has welcomed more than a quarter of a million visitors since it opened in 1992, & employs more than 40 people. It begins with a self guide multimedia tour of the origins of the mill in the late 1800’s. Visitors are taken right through the working mill as it is run today, where they can see first-hand the mastery of tradition, design and craftsmanship that goes into every single Irish made Foxford product. There is also a chance to enjoy a gourmet cafe and peruse the treasure trove of gifts in the bright and airy Foxford store. And best of all, the award winning tour is completely free of charge, and available in German, French, Italian, Irish, as well as English.

Foxford pieces are treasured possessions and welcome gifts, but with the help of award winning Irish Designers like Helen McAlinden, they have been made contemporary and up to date. Foxford pieces are sold not only in Foxford stores around Ireland, but also in selected retailers all over the world, and from January 2011 are available in Foxford's online store.
