Meet the Team

Maria Ruddy
Maria is a daughter of the original owners Brian & Bríd Ruddy. Maria with her husband Darren took over the business in 1996. She is on the board of Irish Country Hotels and Destination Westport. Her interests include singing with Cór Maigheo, a Mayo county choir and is an avid armchair sports enthusiast. They have two children Conor and Niamh, and two family labradors Zach and Coady.

 

Darren Madden
Darren hails from Kilmeena outside Westport and trained as a Quantity Surveyor, before joining Maria in the business in 1996. Darren is the current Chairperson of Destination Westport and is on the Irish Hotels Federation Board.  He is a sports enthusiast and played senior football for Kilmeena Gaa, and is now involved in training the Kilmeena youth teams. He is currently playing for the Mayo Masters (Over 40’s) team. Darren is also involved in training Westport Rugby Youth teams and a selector with a local intermediate GAA team. Darren also enjoys hill walking and has huge local knowledge of all the peaks in the area.

Karen Brennan
Originally from Roscommon, Karen is Operations Manager and has worked in the Clew Bay Hotel since 1996. Karen is currently studying  part-time for a degree in Enterprise Management & Rural Development with Failte Ireland in Waterford IT. Karen has a keen interest in baking and during the winter months gives baking demonstrations to our guests. She is an integral part of the team here at the Clew Bay.

 

Mary Sheridan
Mary is from outside Westport and has worked on reception since 2001. Mary is a very active person and she is a qualified hill walking guide, and a voluntary member of Mayo Mountain Rescue. She  conquered Kilimanjaro in 2011.

 

 

Pawel Sadowski
Pawel is from Warsaw in Poland and is our Food & Beverage Manager.  A keen photographer, he has had exhibitions in the hotel and did the photography for our website. He would enjoy showing any keen photographer or artists the best locations in our area.

 

 

Shona O’Malley
Shona is originally from Westport and is responsible for Sales & Marketing in the hotel. She has degrees in Hotel Management and Marketing.  She is a keen runner and she completed her first Sea to Summit adventure race recently. She is a member of the Kilmeena Folk Choir also.

 

 

Alex Czurylo
Alex has been a member of the the team since 2007. A lively bubbly person, she has recently completed a Wedding Co-ordinator course. She keeps everyone entertained in a busy operation.

 

 

 

 

Our Breakfast Team
Nellie Meehan and Marie Malone lead the early morning team for Breakast. Nellie is a native of Cabra in Dublin and migrated to Westport over 10 years ago. But still retains her Dublin accent & wit. She is a keen gardener and she is a member of a local gardening club. Marie is another local girl who is busy Mum with a young family and works part-time.
